The Silver Doors

Will Anderson believes in true love — as both concept and catalyst, aspiration and inspiration. During his 34 years, the 

 founder and architect has found such love perhaps half-a-dozen times. Each instance has prompted some enormous swing of commitment, like a cross-country move or simply being honest about his budding attraction. It is a hopeful and vulnerable way to exist, a way to ensure maximum bruising during the fall of the breakup. And so far for Anderson, that is how it has always ended, whether the air has slowly seeped out of some once-full balloon or whether it has simply popped, those expanded feelings expelled in an instant.

This tension is the brain, blood, and beating heart of Cartwheel, the byproduct of Anderson’s decades-long quest to pin down the surging sound long in his head. But borne of real hurt and continued hope, lit by the flickering belief that just maybe things will sort themselves out, Cartwheel transcends those scene associations to become something greater—a classic encapsulation of youthful ardor, fading into adulthood’s grim acceptance. It is a beautiful, radical, and engrossing record about trying to find what most of us have not yet attained: fulfillment.

Formed in the mountains of Western North Carolina in 2008 and residing in Asheville for a decade-plus, Doc Aquatic is brothers J.C. and Zack Hayes, Charles Gately, and Kevin Boggs. The four combine to produce a special brand of catchy shoegaze-pop with familiar hints of 90’s alternative and Laurel Canyon flair concentrated through an unbleached paper filter into a live show described as  “…mesmerizing…high-energy.. orchestrated psychedelia..” .. “audacious fun” with “hypnotic grooves and a commitment to melody.” 

‘Blue Hour Yawn’ is the band’s fourth full-length record. A refined collection of 11 songs written, recorded, and produced by J.C Hayes + Charles Gately at the band’s studio, Mixed by Alex Farrar and Mastered by Lawson Alderson at Drop of Sun in West Asheville. The songs explore the fleeting moments as lightness gives way to the dark, a dream forgotten, because without death there can be no growth.

Truth be told we weren't sure we could pull this off between all the chaos of Helene. We've been burning our candle at both ends to keep things moving forward and somehow this party fell on the back burner. Last week we decided 20 Years is something to be proud of, and that we would ask our close friends to celebrate with us, if they could.We understand this announcement gives folks little notice, so if you're unable to be here in person, you can still donate to our GoFundMe and watch the event live on our Static Age IAMAVL Youtube Channel.

We're at about 30% of our fundraising goal. Hoping to get all the way to 100% by the new year!20 Years in business, Static Age has so many people to thank who have uniquely shaped this space into the community its become.The support we've felt lately reaches farther than we ever really knew was out there, and if there's any silver lining in Hurricane Helene's aftermath, it is the deepening of community engagement among old friends and new.

To celebrate these 20 Years, we decided it would be fun to curate 20 mystery tote bags for auction. Each tote will feature some Family Night Records hits, SA merch, and whatever else ends up in there!

This celebration falls on Black Friday, so in addition to the music and mystery totes, expect to find sale items, and HUGE discounts on many titles from relatively unheard of artists that have accumulated over the 20 years.

Sounding Arrow

 is the musical project by recording artist Scott Kinnebrew. The debut album 

, released in September 2017, is a call to life, love and the spirit of compassion. While sitting comfortably in the contemporary Indie Folk genre, there is a patina to Sounding Arrow’s sound that’s indicative of earlier musical influences. Though a widely celebrated recording, these songs have rarely been performed live. It’s just since moving back to Asheville, NC from LA in 2020 that Kinnebrew began playing them again, having found a group of musicians that shared the right chemistry. Production on a new record is slated to begin in 2024.

 is self-taught musician, songwriter, and artist. Growing up in the the absurd air conditioned climate of Phoenix, AZ, Steinbrink developed a unique and intricate fingerpicking style on guitar and learned to write songs by reverse engineering pop music taped off the radio. Immersing himself in the west coast DIY community in the mid-2000s, Steinbrink left on his first tour at the age of 16 and continued performing internationally for a decade, living an improvised and experimental existence, being nowhere all the time and recording incessantly.

He has released 9 critically acclaimed albums of experimental pop music in North America, Europe, and Japan. In roles as a session player and producer, he has collaborated with Boy Scouts, Dear Nora, AJJ, Girlpool, Lake, and Ever Ending Kicks. An autodidact artist, Steibrink works in illustration, animation, and Stained Glass conservation, having restored historic glass art by Charles C. Connick, Narcissus Quagliata, and Louis Comfort Tiffany. He currently lives in Oakland, CA.

Corey Parlamento

 is the melancholic soft rock recording project of Chicago, IL singer/songwriter Owen Ashworth (formerly of Casiotone for the Painfully Alone). Using a two-handed arsenal of electric piano, Omnichord, samplers, effect pedals & drum machines, Ashworth builds minimalist, heavy-hearted, & nostalgia-obsessed ballads around his conversational baritone. The warm, electronic sound of Advance Base has been described as "lo-fi," "depressed" & "weirdly uplifting."

 - Corey Parlamento is a non-binary artist and musician based in Asheville NC. Their work embraces a multiplicity of genres and they have released several albums that range from minimalist acoustic guitar based songs, frenetic electric guitar duo improvisations, and expansive ambient world building compositions. In their songs they write about feelings, various personal mythologies, rooms, air, doors and friendship.

Help our arts community rebuild! Hurricane Helene was an unexpected calamity, and many of our creative community have sustained incalculable loss. What's more, our tourism season took a hit, and it has put a squeeze on sales. This is an opportunity to showcase our talents, and connect artists and buyers anywhere in the world.

The event will be streamed live, spending time among guests, the artists, and their work. Bidding will take place on our betterworld page.
Musical entertainment will be provided by local darlings, The Deviled Eggs, Krekel and Whoa, and other surprise guests.
