In the messiness of daily life, one rule rings true above all else: artistry always beats mastery. No amount of fine technique or studied precision can match the release of real feeling, the genuine thrill of human bodies and spirits finding each other in the heat of the night. On Bite the Hand That Feeds (Famous Class), Atlanta’s Upchuck offer such real feeling in droves. 

Channeling the speed of youth and the heaviness of a fleshy, lived life in equal proportion, Upchuck’s second LP is a Trojan Horse par excellence, craftily smuggling in waves of sentimental emotion and clever pop songwriting under a veil of pulsing rhythms and scorching riffs.They are loyal to no genre or stylistic strictures—Bite the Hand That Feeds shifts effortlessly between fuzzed out, Sabbath-worthy dirges and ripping, Spits-worship punk, hardcore-freak-psychedelia and bright garage pop. 

Where other bands might falter under the weight of stylistic overload, Upchuck carve forward across the cement with a sense of charmed ease. What binds Upchuck together is a purity of intention, an organic loyalty to a thick knot of uncalculated friendships, struggles, and desires.

RONNIE STONE, in his peculiar temporality, marries both retrospective charm and forward-looking innovation, presenting a brand of synth-pop that gracefully fuses vintage allure with contemporary dance vibes. This NYC stalwart, a prodigious producer and musician, crafts all of his tracks from a secret studio, surrounded by a treasure trove of 1980s synthesizers, to deliver dance-pop gems for eccentrics and introverts alike.

 (b. 1991) is an Australian vocalist based in New York. Using the voice, feedback, and live processing, Lee's practice is primarily concerned with risk-taking, playfulness, and improvisation. She has been recognized as “extraordinary” by 

As a composer, Lee has collaborated with leading ensembles including Kronos Quartet and the Wet Ink Ensemble. Her long-standing collaborators include Conrad Tao, Eric Wubbels, and Ikue Mori (MacArthur Fellow). 

Lee frequently guest lectures on building a personal language and creative agency at undergraduate and graduate-level composition programs including Princeton University, Stanford, and the New School. Lee serves on the Artistic Advisory Council at ISSUE Project Room and co-runs a record label with Randall Dunn, Kou Records, dedicated to artists who have developed singular musical languages.

 formed in New Jersey in 2017, and after releasing two self-recorded demo collections, they released their first studio album, Sun Into Flies, in 2020, followed by Perfect Gray in 2021. Now based in Brooklyn and Philadelphia, the duo of multi-instrumentalist brothers Nick and Shane Sullivan are constantly evolving their sound. Their latest album, Night Songs, examines the allure of night and its ability to shapeshift from a mirror for our innermost demons to a shield from the demands of daily drudgery. It marks a departure from their hushed slowcore beginnings and displays a more expansive sound—from blowtorched shoegaze guitars and poppier vocals to melancholy synths and pastoral lap steel. Fittingly, their detour into twistier, heavier territory coincides with the depraved nature of nighttime activities, and their foray into a more hi-fi, pop-forward direction aligns with the stark clarity that pitch-black skies provide. Their devilish distortion also functions as a cathartic foil to their quiet, real-life demeanors, and was informed by their live shows, which increasingly featured gnarlier versions of past Joyer songs. Following the success of Night Songs the band has embarked on various country-wide tours, sharing bills with other up-and-coming acts as well as prominent indie rock artists such as Wishy, Feeble Little Horse, Horse Jumper of Love, Lowertown, and Babehoven.

Coral Grief is the Seattle-based dream pop project of Lena Farr-Morrissey (vocals, bass, synth) Sam Fason (guitar, synth) and Cam Hancock (drums). Rich guitars, glowing synths, driving bass, and ethereal vocals swirl around skeletal drum beats to create a textured, intricate sound that is experimental, playful, and catchy.

The band first emerged onto the Seattle scene with thier self-titled EP, released by Seattle tape label 

 in May 2021. Recorded entirely by Farr-Morrissey and Fason in 2020, the the six tracks contrast themes of isolation and stagnation over propulsive drum machine loops and swirling, lush compositions. The band's sophomore release 

, released February 24, 2023, expands on the trio’s strengths, with more energetic contrasts and vibrant production. Full of double meanings, these songs revolve around feelings of personal and collective stagnation, while also exploring treasure maps amidst the times of disorder and desperation. The first record to feature drummer Cam Hancock, the six songs see the band explore new dynamic territory while continuing to deliver mesmerizing performances with lush, textured production.

Coral Grief toured extensively through the western US, including festival dates at Treefort Music Fest, Capitol Hill Block Party and South by Southwest. The trio has played some of Seattle’s most iconic venues, opening for acclaimed artists like Indigo de Souza, Chastity Belt, and Luna. With dynamic live performances that seamlessly shift between driving, motorik rhythms and enveloping ambient atmospherics, Coral Grief continues to push forward into exciting new sonic territory.

Influenced by the likes of Yasiin Bey (fka Mos Def), Nas, and Prince, the native Chicagoan's critically acclaimed releases (Delayed Entry EP and Wayfare, Vol. 1) are magnetic showcases of his artistry.

C.Shreve the Professor - NC based MC/producer & founder of the hip-hop collective Free The Optimus (FTO). The 2-time Carolina Music Award winners developed their following & relevance through an unrelenting tour & release schedule.

Colston has released an all original solo album, as well as a mixtape, both of which were instant Asheville classics. He shows a lot of versatility with his deep lyrics matched with unique instrument driven hip hop beats.

Kuh-Leeb - rapper in AVL by way of CLT. Songs are often introspective and contemplative but can also delve into a variety of topics. He hopes to inspire people with his music and share his art with anyone willing to lend an ear.

Cash Langdon - Birmingham, AL - cosmic / folk / indie rock

Birmingham indie rocker Cash Langdon has two records to his name, but the most recent, Dogs, is the first where he is joined by his band Meadow Dust (bassist Matt Whitson and drummer Reagan Bruce). Their fuzzy take on heavy country rock recalls Neil Young & Crazy Horse and gives off the heat of Langdon’s native Birmingham. Like Young, his voice is simultaneously earnest and world-weary, but there’s a sense of humor too, and a resignation to keeping on. The songs are beautiful, searing, southern-gothic testaments to the ongoing violence of being awake to the world around you and the resolve to stay awake anyway.

On new album Longest Day of the Year, Dari Bay is a perpetually shifting art project posing as songs, an ongoing thought experiment disguised as a band. Burlington, Vermont-based artist Zachary James launched Dari Bay as a solo vehicle in 2015, acting as sole songwriter, producer, player of every instrument, and exacting architect of how each sound was placed. Early output was raw and often unhinged, but Longest Day of the Year finds Dari Bay assuming a new form as James folds his experimental spirit into what at first appear to be neutral, unassuming tunes.- - - - - -

Graham Hunt - ...Since he was a teenager, he’s been working at perfecting the form, writing songs that get to the heart of what makes Midwestern guitar pop so essential, and doing it while sidestepping any of the dead-end creative moves that weigh down many in the genre.

Nowhere is this balancing act as clear as on the Madison-based artist’s new LP, Try Not To Laugh. It’s a record where breakbeats coexist with anthemic choruses and synth runs go toe-to-toe with acoustic guitars. From start to finish, the song stays at the forefront. It’s been the throughline for Hunt, who has played in street punk bands and power pop bands and hardcore bands and the underrated Midnight Reruns, who pushed a distinctively Upper Heartland kind of songcraft, one that led to opening slots for The Replacements and a diehard following of Wisconsin alcoholics.
